One of the corner stones for the product development will be an open spatial data content platform which will be established in support of added-value content creation and content dissemination. The platform will host in its initial form a basic set of geo-data which is open to new geo-services and apps to generate value added geo-data. The platform follows the rule that newly generated data must be fed back to the platform as open data again. In this way, the platform will act as a data value accelerator. The platform will help users to understand the data better by adding innovative methods to create and use metadata by including workflows of data and software operations, semantic previews and status maps. Hackathons will foster the development of applications that will use the platform’s functionality, but also to develop components of the platform itself.
Based on the data included in a Web Map – API (server) a mobile client (App) can be developed / used to retrieve the data and visualize the spatial data. The topic of this course is on App development,
As a demo an example is used, utilizing the 10-day global weather forecast maps (from the Global Forecasting System) for a number of parameters like rainfall, relative humidity, minimum and maximum temperature, potential and actual evapotranspiration. Course participants are free to include, after the basic App training additional elements based on their own data sources or eventual in combination with other sensor measurements.
